Profile 2004-2005

         Westview High School is a four-year public high school accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. Projected enrollment is 650 students. The school is located on a forty-five acre tract of land on Highway 45E, two miles south of Martin, Tennessee. The facility was completed in the fall of 1997 and consists of 145,000 square feet, which includes, thirty two academic class rooms, a writing lab, a physics lab, two biology labs, two science labs, a chemistry lab, two computer labs, two resource classrooms, an art lab, an agriculture lab, an industrial technology lab, a business information technology lab, two family and consumer science labs, a health science lab, a theater, library media center, computerized annual staff room, gymnasium, a music room, cafeteria, administrative offices and guidance offices.
 
 
CURRICULUM

         An extensive curriculum is provided in Art, Business Education, English, Spanish, French, Family and Consumer Science, Mathematics, Music, Wellness, Science, Social Studies, Agriculture, Driver Education, Industrial Technology and Health Sciences.
 
 
TRANSCRIPT INFORMATION AND GRADING SYSTEM

         The school year is divided into two semesters; each semester is divided into three six-week grading periods. Students receive report cards at the end of each six-week period. Classes meet five days a week, and one unit of credit is assigned for each course that meets one period a day, five times a week.
 
 
WEIGHTED GRADES

         The weighted grade concept is designed to encourage and reward students for attempting a more rigorous academic curriculum. Grades are weighted in designated courses by adding 5 points to the numerical six weeks average (enabling a student in a weighted grade class to obtain a maximum 6 weeks score of 105) and by increasing the quality point value in determining GPA (an A in a weighted grade class is assigned 5 quality points instead of 4 quality points for an A in a regular course). DUAL PATH
Students take the college-path plus 4 credits in Career and Technical Education. Students enrolled in Band and Athletics cannot pursue the Dual Path.


TOTAL OF 20 UNITS REQUIRED FOR GRADUATION IN ALL PATHS.
All students must have passing scores on the Gateway Exams for Algebra I, English II and Biology I in order to receive regular diplomas. IEP's will determine Special Education students' high school program.
